About My School Advisor

My School Advisor is college planning for homeschool families and community college students. It builds course plans, keeps a college-ready transcript, matches scholarships, and works out which credits transfer — the kind of guidance families otherwise pay a private consultant for.

How it works

You tell us about the student — the courses taken, where they were taken, and where the student wants to go. From that one profile we build a course plan toward on-time graduation, keep a transcript that a registrar would recognize, estimate what college actually costs your family, and surface scholarships the student may qualify for. Answer something once and every part of the product uses it.

Where the numbers come from

The college directory comes from the federal IPEDS collection. College cost figures — tuition and fees, net price, and median graduate debt — come from the U.S. Department of Education’s College Scorecard. Aid estimates are computed from the published federal financial-aid formulas — the FAFSA-based Student Aid Index and Pell Grant tables — not from our own guesses at what a family will pay. Every source we rely on, and how current each one is, is listed on our data sources page.

What we will not tell you

An aid estimate is an estimate. Until a college sends an actual offer, nobody — us included — can tell you what you will pay, and we will not present a number as though it were an offer. Where a school publishes something, we cite it. Where nothing is published, we say so rather than filling the gap. If we cannot back a claim, we would rather leave it out than dress up a guess.
