Who we work for

Most college tools cost nothing because someone other than you is paying for them. It is worth knowing who that is. Here is who pays us, and what we will not do for money.

We work for the student

No college can pay to be recommended, ranked, or put in front of your student. We will never enter an agreement — paid or unpaid — to hand student information to any school. When we help build a college list, we are working for the student, not for a school hoping to fill a seat.

Schools and counselors can use My School Advisor for one thing: advising their own students. Anything a counselor adds to a student’s plan is shown to that student, attributed by name, and the student can remove it.

If a college wants to correct something we have published about them, that is free and always will be. Accuracy is not something we sell back to the schools we write about.

How we make money

Families pay us a subscription. That is the entire model. No ads, no advertising profiles, no data brokers, and nothing we earn depends on where a student applies or enrolls.

That is what makes the section above worth anything. A promise you cannot afford to keep is not a promise — ours costs us nothing to keep, because our income does not come from the schools we are advising you about.

Schools and districts can buy the tool for their own students, the same way they buy any other software. What they cannot buy is a place in your student’s recommendations, influence over the advice you see, or any information about the families who use the consumer product.

We show our work

We do not invent figures. Every number we publish is dated and traced to a named source — federal data, or the school’s own published page. When a figure comes from an older year we say so rather than presenting it as current, because a dated number honestly labelled is more useful than a fresh-looking one you cannot check. Where each figure comes from is set out on our data sources page, and how the product works is on about.

A US company

My School Advisor is built and operated by Sweet An Business LLC, a California company.

We load no third-party trackers, no advertising scripts and no external fonts — our type is served from our own servers, so reading this page does not announce you to anyone else.
